The Office of Drug Control has issued an infringement notice of $13,320 to New South Wales-based company ABC CAN Pty Ltd for alleged security failures at its cannabis cultivation site.
The company, which holds a medicinal cannabis licence, allegedly failed to maintain a system of security that prevents the illegal and unauthorised removal of cannabis and cannabis drugs from their site of operations.
This is a requirement for all medicinal cannabis licence holders in Australia under the Narcotic Drugs Act 1967 (the Act).
The Office of Drug Control is responsible for ensuring the effective compliance of licence and permit holders in meeting their obligations under the Act. Non-compliance may be detected through monitoring activities such as site inspections.
This infringement notice serves as a warning to other medicinal cannabis licence holders to take their compliance obligations seriously.
If you suspect non-compliance in relation to medicinal cannabis cultivation or manufacture, you can report potentially illegal or questionable practices to the Office of Drug Control at ODC.Compliance@health.gov.au.
