Media release: Medicinal cannabis company Tikun Oceania fined $13,320 for alleged inadequate security and record-keeping
The Office of Drug Control, within the Department of Health and Aged Care, has issued Queensland-based Tikun Oceana Pty Ltd an infringement notice of $13,320 for alleged security and record-keeping failures.
The medicinal cannabis licence holder allegedly failed to maintain an accurate record of the number of cannabis plants in its possession. Tikun Oceana also allegedly failed to maintain a system of security that prevents the illegal and unauthorised removal of cannabis plants from their site of operations.
The Office of Drug Control is responsible for ensuring the effective compliance of licence and permit holders in meeting their obligations under the Narcotic Drugs Act 1967. Non-compliance may be detected through monitoring activities such as site inspections.
This infringement notice serves as a warning to other medicinal cannabis licence holders to take their compliance obligations seriously.
